International Studies Program

Welcome to the International Studies Program at the University of North Texas! Thank you for your interest in our program. As an interdisciplinary program, the International Studies major is designed to give students an awareness of the diversity, complexity, and interdependence of the global community. The major also equips students with the necessary background, cultural competency, and skills necessary to understand and critically analyze the political, social, economic, and cultural aspects of contemporary global concerns, issues, and problems, and to be successful in an increasingly complex and global job market. Bachelor of Arts Requirements

International Studies offers courses for the Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in International Studies. Students majoring in other fields can minor in International Studies or take courses for general interest, elective credit, or as part of the Arts and Sciences Core.

The Bachelor of Arts degree requires a total of 120 semester hours, 42 of which must be advanced hours, and fulfillment of the general requirements of the College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences and the University Core Curriculum.

Major in International Studies

Students majoring in International Studies can choose one of the four concentrations below:

    1. Global Conflict
    2. Human Security
    3. Business & Economics
    4. Global Perspectives

A major in International Studies requires the completion of the following required courses:

    1. Introduction to International Studies (INST 2100)
    2. Capstone class associated with the chosen concentration (INST 4851, INST 4852, or INST 4853) or Internship (INST 4800)

Students choosing the following concentrations are required to complete 42 hours of coursework and six hours of advanced foreign language:

    1. Global Conflict
    2. Human Security
    3. Business & Economics

Students with a concentration in Global Perspectives are required to complete 48 hours of coursework.

Minor in International Studies

Students choosing to minor in International Studies can choose one of the four concentrations offered and are required to complete 18 hours of coursework. Required courses include Introduction to International Studies (INST 2100) and the Capstone class that is associated with the chosen concentration.
